3 “Phrase of the day...” It’s the circle of life. Does anyone know what this means?

4 “Phrase of the day...” The circle of life is the journey that we make in our lives, from birth to death.

5 “Phrase of the day...” The circle of life is made of four stages: Stage 1: Birth – when you first become alive! Stage 2: Growth – when you grow up big and strong! Stage 3: Reproduction – when you have children! Stage 4: Death – so the circle of life can start over again.

6 “Phrase of the day...” So... When someone says “it’s the circle of life” they mean: We are all connected. We all gain energy from the animals that lived before us.

7 What is a food chain? Every living thing needs energy in order to live and grow. Every living thing gets energy from the food it eats.

8 What is a food chain? Plants use sunlight, water and nutrients to get energy. Nutrients: something that a living thing needs to grow and survive.

9 What is a food chain? Animals get energy from eating other, smaller animals. OR Animals get energy from eating plants. Plants get energy from the sun.

10 What is a food chain? Large animals belong at the top of the food chain, because they eat small animals. They often have sharp teeth!

11 What is a food chain? Small animals belong in the middle of the food chain, because they eat insects and plants.

12 What is a food chain? Plants need sunlight to grow.

15 Let’s make a food chain! I need 2 more volunteers! Lizard Eagle Add them to the food chain!

16 Instructions 1. You will be divided into groups of 6 2. You will choose a member of your food chain and write in on a piece of paper 3. You will hold on to your piece of paper so everyone in your group can see it 4. You will order yourself into a food chain 5. You will present your food chain to the class
