4. Thesis Restatement In this sentence, you are to restate your thesis statement from your intro paragraph using different words. Example: John Steinbeck's novel explores the theme of hope and loss. The characters of Lennie, Curley's wife, and George all dreamt of a greater life, but lost those dreams throughout the novel.

5. Thesis Points Summary This is where you should summarize (NOT REGURGITATE) your three thesis points in two or three sentences. Example: Lennie's dream for land and animals ended with him killing his puppy and Curley's wife. George lost his hope of living on a ranch with his friend as he had to kill him. Curley's wife never reached her hopes for an exciting life because she was married to a ranch hand and ultimately killed.

6. Clincher Sentence This is the last sentence of your essay. Do your best to leave your reader with something they will remember and connect back to the attention-getter in your intro paragraph. Make a statement that SHOWS the importance of the subject in your essay. Example: The reader must decide if the consequence of loss was worth having hope at all.
