8 HELEN High Energy Physics Latinamerican-European Network Training Types Complementary training (CT): Mobility of students of the two final years. Residences of 6 to 10 months by grant-holders. Advanced training (AT): Doctorate, Master degrees or post-doctoral vocational specialisation courses. Residences of 6 to 20 months. Short-term training (STT): As part of post-graduate studies. Residences of up to 3 months. Research training (RT): Specialised scientific visits for researchers. Residences of up to 6 months. Grant-Holders Academic Background 1.Advanced Training (AT): Members of a Ph.D. Program in Physics holding a Bachelor Degree with thesis work in Particle Physics; 2.Short Term Training (STT): Same as before, 3.Complementary Training (CT): Members of an Undergraduate Program in Physics or Engineering; 4.Research Training (RT): Ph.D. diploma in Particle Physics (Experiment or Theory). Training Programme

9 Description of the Training Programme The Project provides advanced training to young physicists by embedding them in research groups at the forefront of research in High Energy Physics (HEP), in the preparation of detectors, hardware / software analysis tools for LHC, DESY, CNGS or Auger experiments, or in Particle Theory. All Institutions that will receive Grant-Holders have long-established programs of seminars and lectures. Technology Transfer: Technology transfer from HEP is the object of specific training at CERN and in LA by CERN professors; A HEP Technology Data Base will be created and disseminated to Funding Agencies and Industrial Unions Outreach: Participation of graduate students to the CERN High School Teachers Programme Training of the same students by the Outreach unit at CERN.

11 Professors/tutors mobility along the network will allow them to give seminars or short lecture series, to: a. Enhance training; b. Start new, collaborative, EU –LA and LA-LA research; c. Oversee research internship of the grant-holders, which is the principal form of training in the Project. Professors/tutors submit to the Network Coordinator a brief report of their travel.
