1. Warm Up
How many questions can you come up with, with the answer being “Greek Gods and Goddesses”?
Be creative!!! After 5 minutes you will “turn and talk” to discuss the questions you came up with.

6. Who do you think these grand buildings were built for based upon what we learned about regarding Greek society? (Turn and talk) Every Greek city-state had a temple dedicated to a god or goddess. Temples such as the Parthenon included a central room that housed statues of the gods or goddesses.

7. Various architectural structures of the Parthenon picture
As a class, we will answer:
What features of the temple tell you that the Greeks built it?
Why were temples the most important buildings in Greek city-states?

8. Independent Practice
Think back to our units on Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, and our current unit on Ancient Greece. Write a 5-7 sentence paragraph discussing, “What makes ancient art and architecture in these civilizations unique for its time”.

9. Group Work Research the following questions on your ipads:
How are public buildings, especially in our nations capitol, influenced by Greek architecture?
What are some buildings around the world today that are influenced by any of the river valley civilizations that we have discuses, or Ancient Greece?

10. What stuck with you today?
Everyone will receive a post it and must stick in on the board before leaving class.

11. Homework
Complete a reading and comprehension questions on Greek art and architecture.
