Team America Robot: Top Gun Professors: Dr. Arroyo and Dr. Schwartz Teaching Assistant: Andrew Wegener Team Members: Bradley Wallace Kasey Stefanski Thomas Vaseliou EGN 1935: ECE Adventures

Presentation Summary  Team Member Biographies  Robot Story  Robot Video  Team Conclusions

Bio of Bradley Wallace  2 nd Semester Freshman  Aerospace Engineering Major  (Although I am considering switching to mechanical)  This course was my first, real programming experience and I now feel confident enough to take a programming course over the summer  I hope to get involved in a design team at the University of Florida, and I due to my experience in this course I am interested in the Subjugator and the autonomous vehicle projects  I do not have a dream career path as of yet, but I am leading towards a career in industry, perhaps in defense.  My advice for those taking this course after me is to pay close attention in lecture: this is the only time you will be taught valuable information and not be actively tested on it, so it is up to you to gain as much from this course as possible.

Bio of The Kasey Stefanski  2 nd semester Freshman  Mechanical Engineer  I gained useful, hands-on experience for programming autonomous robots. The average freshman doesn’t have this kind of experience with the codes and software used to complete this process. I also got a greater understanding of all the components that go into the making of circuits.  This course will put me a step ahead when it comes time to take other programming courses, and future work with autonomous robotics.  I plan on studying Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Biomechanical Engineering  My future goals are to work on the design of aquatic robots for companies such as Bluefin Robotics, Raytheon, or Lockheed Martin.  Words of Advice- When it comes to the final challenge, ”if you ain’t first your last.”

Bio of Thomas Vaseliou  1 st year  Electrical Engineering  This course has reinforced my desire to be an Electrical Engineer  My career path is to go to law school and become a patent attorney  My advice for people taking this class is to really pay attention in class. It is really helpful in introducing you to concepts you will see in higher level courses. I also suggest to take the lab’s seriously and to not fall behind.

Top Gun’s Story  This is the Story of Top Gun on his way back to the aircraft carrier after a hard-fought battle. While it was a victory, there was the devastating loss of his partner Goose which gave him the fighting spirit to make it home safe to his beautiful girlfriend. During the mission home, the pilot of Top Gun, and Top Gun’s own ingenuity, prove to us that this is not Mission Impossible.

Top Gun’s Story (Continued)  During Top Gun’s flight back to the ship, he runs into some resistance that he must either avoid or attempt to battle through. Right at the beginning he runs into a fleet of fighters which he must choose to fly around in order to stay alive and he chooses to go left. Soon after banking left there was a flank attack in which he must avoid again. He quickly banks left while firing some missiles which hit the attackers. After escaping them it appears he is not on the high way to the danger zone after all. After a long period of smooth flying he is about to hit the home stretch when he spots an air traffic control tower on the horizon.

Top Gun’s Story (Continued)  He is calling into radio tower to find which maneuver is best. He is going to do whatever it takes to make it home and not end up like Goose. He hits a quick right turn does a quick fly by to make sure he has a clear landing area. But Top Gun can’t resist one last fly-by, and during his descent he buzzes the tower in honor of Goose’s memory. After making it home safely, Top Gun was finally reunited with his girlfriend, and he did it for ‘Merica!

Team Conclusions  One simple error in a program can inhibit the program from running, and detailed proofreading is required in order to ensure that the program is acting as intended.  While the actual process of coding can be accomplished by one person, it always helps to have a team to proofread each others work and catch mistakes that the original programmer may have overlooked.  Robots are easy to understand- they are tools that can be utilized throughout many fields and are worthy of study and interest.
