2 Grant Projects Funded to Date 2003 (closed out) - 14 Projects totaling $683,646 2004 (ends 7/1/07) - 13 Projects totaling $614,595 2005 (active) - 9 Projects totaling $510,213 2006 (active) - 14 Projects totaling $675,033 2007 (pending NOAA approval) - 17 Projects totaling $719,782

3 The purpose of the Program is to preserve, protect, restore and where possible to develop the resources of the coast for this and succeeding generations and to achieve wise use of the land and water resources of the coastal region, giving full consideration to ecological, cultural, historic and esthetic values as well as to needs for economic development. The Grants Process Project Types: §306A Low Cost Construction §306A Acquisition §306 Education and Outreach §306 Planning/Coordination/Management Eligible Applicants: Units of local government Area-wide agencies State agencies Colleges, universities Conservancy districts Port Authorities, Basin Commissions Non-profits (special conditions apply)

5 New to the Grants Process Streamlined with new pre-proposal process - Applicants submit a pre-proposal allowing us to work with applicants directly on meeting full application requirements, and incorporate Advisory Board input …..also….. - Reduces applicant’s time spent on an application (only to find out project isn’t eligible) In a perfect world…… ….so we keep trying!

8 Indiana Coastal Restoration Action Team (ICRAT) Save the Dunes Conservation Fund Federal Award: $69,950 Identified restoration training needs: Herbicide application Prescribed fire training Wetland restoration, mapping and inventory Native seed propagation Biological control Mechanical removal of invasive plants Recipient of the 2006 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in Education and Outreach

9 Marquette Plan: The Lakeshore Reinvestment Strategy Port of Indiana to IN/MI State Line: Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission Federal Award: $125,000 Vision: Extend the vision of a livable lakefront in Indiana to the Michigan state line while taking into account a different set of social, economic, geographic challenges Partnership Efforts: Greenways and Water Trails project LaPorte County’s Comprehensive Land Development Plan Hwy 12/20 Corridor Plan IN/IL State Line to City of Portage: Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Portage Federal Award: $160,000 Vision: Create a Livable Lakefront Award: Merit Award for Planning Illinois Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects
