4 September 2009 MDRP: Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Disease Visual Analytics Personnel: Ebert, Cleveland, Hardisty, MacEachren, Turton External Partners: FAZD, Indiana BOAH Goal - Develop visual analytic environments to facilitate effective prediction, planning, evaluation, mitigation, response, and recovery for zoonoses and animal health issues Approach: Integrate FAZD data into a visual analytic environment linking multiple models (e.g., disease spread, economic impact) Explore and develop new exploratory spatial data visual analysis algorithms tailored for modelers and decision makers

5 September 2009 MDRP: Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Disease Visual Analytics Outcomes New biosecurity environment for preparing, surveillance, mitigation, management, response and recovery New decision making environment for Rift Valley Fever Initial epidemiological model evaluation and refinement visual analytic environment Initial improved linked epidemiological/economic model decision making environment for important and emerging biological threats

6 September 2009 Undergraduate Education Programs Purdue University Visual Analytics Summer Program (VASP) Introduce students to visual and data analytics through a 10 week hands-on learning program Partner with Purdue’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) to provide a larger community for student interaction End of summer presentations and poster with large SURF community Four students participated in the summer 2009 pilot. Goal for 2010 is 10 students, from Purdue and partnering schools Partners
