Learning Intention! To make clear to children behaviour and achievement links across a number of aspects of school life. - School Aims and Vision - Friday Fun - Circle Time - PLP Target - House System - Together Time

3 REASONS FOR CHANGES Familiar faces kept popping up through monitoring process! Same system over last few years. System needing refreshed to have bigger impact on pupils.

4 Golden Time Set of School Rules which children are encouraged to follow and use as a guide for their behaviour Whole school approach linking class charters, behaviour and pupil aims Golden Rules will be discussed and reinforced at Together Time assemblies

HEALTHY by being able to confidently make different choices each day to keep ourselves healthy; in class, in the playground, with snacks, at lunchtime and how we travel to school. ACHIEVING by supporting and encouraging each other to try new things and to get better at them. By being able to confidently ask good questions. NURTURED by looking out for everyone and by being caring, friendly and helpful towards each other. ACTIVE by encouraging everyone to join in with sports and games because encouraging each other sets a good example. RESPECTED by letting everyone have their say and always listening to everyone’s ideas. RESPONSIBLE by always thinking carefully before taking action. INCLUDED by liking the fact that we are all different and by making sure everyone is involved Golden Rules Do be gentle, do not hurt anybody Do be kind and helpful, do not hurt people’s feelings or waste your own or other people’s time Do look after property, do not waste or damage things Do listen to people, do not interrupt Do be honest, do not cover up the truth

7 Friday Fun vs Golden Time
Reward children for behaving- focus on the positive Children suggest and choose golden time activities in advance so they are aware of the reward they are working to achieve. This will change to a trial of hosting activities across the stage after Christmas Holiday. Focus across whole school to achieve 5 mins of Golden Time each day by following the Golden Rules

8 5 mins of Golden Time = 5 points for their house.
House Points Following the rules will earn children house points 5 mins of Golden Time = 5 points for their house. Each class has a reward chart for individual points or group house points where children can receive bonus points for ‘extra’ individual achievements Each week points are added to the house total. Following pupil feedback, the winning house continues to receives House Award, however on monthly basis and with added option of a choice of area – as became clear that not all children enjoyed the MUGA as a reward.

9 PLP Targets PLP targets can also be linked to Golden Rules
Award extra bonus points using not only academic evidence but also adherence of Golden Rules across school life in achieving targets Use Friday Circle Time to enhance support for achieving targets and using rules to guide behaviour

10 TOGETHER TIME ASSEMBLY
Pupil achievements still recognised both within and out with school with a Kirkhill Star. Support staff award Golden Behaviour with a Gold Star. Golden Rules will be taught at assemblies. This will reinforce the positive behaviour consistently throughout the school year. New HT award – liked to school vision and aims, this award will recognise pupils who have shown extra effort in behaviour, work and general school commitment.

11 Time Loss Each child aims to achieve 25mins of Golden Time each week
Children given a number of warnings for unacceptable behaviour and flaunting of Golden Rules (2 verbal, amber before red) Repeated unacceptable behaviour will result in time loss (5 mins per day) Time loss room for reflection

12 Time Loss On a first visit, Stage Managers will discuss unacceptable behaviour with children in the Time Loss room On a second visit, DHT will discuss unacceptable behaviour with children If there is a third visit, children will see HT, who in turn will also contact parents to discuss support strategies for continued unacceptable behaviour Children will have to explain their time loss to peers, as will have lost points for their house – bigger impact! Repeat visits will be recorded and parents kept informed

13 Parent and Teacher Therapy!
Consistent whole school approach from P1-P7 Pupils will learn to support each other as well as support and reinforce positive behaviour with friends, brothers and sisters Clear links between behaviour, achievement and success House System will have greater impact on behaviour and continue to build on the excellent school ethos
