Curriculum – Designed as a survey course by the College Board, a not-for-profit educational company. Based around 5 historical themes and 6 chronological eras European history accounts for only 20% of the curriculum Covers period from around 8000 BCE to present day (10,000 years covered in 8 months)

The Student View: 1) It’s so hard! 2) There is so much reading! 3) Mr. Sakole is such a hard grader! 4) I am going to fail! 5) I don’t know what I am doing! 6) I have no time to Instagram, Skype, Facebook, Tweet, or shoot zombies!

The Parent View 1. My son/daughter is spending so much time on AP World History. 2. My son/daughter is very stressed out over the AP World History class. 3. My son/daughter tells me Mr. Sakole is an impossibly hard grader. 4. How much tuition can I really save if they get a 5 on the exam?

The Teacher View 1. I have a ridiculous amount of material to cover in 8 months so I have to go pretty fast. 2. The kids knew what they were getting into when they signed up for the class. 3. If parents would just push and support their kids a little more, the students would be so much more successful. 4. If I have to grade one more poorly written essay, I might scream!

The Realistic View: AP World History is 1. Hard 2. Does require a larger amount of time than most other classes. 3. Can cause stress because the assessments (tests and quizzes) are more difficult. 4. 99% of the students get through all of this and end up being satisfied and better prepared by their experience.

AP World History requires: 1. Reading almost every night from a college level textbook 2. Reading comprehension assessments 3. Taking Unit Exams consisting of multiple-choice questions and at least 1 essay 4. At least 1 major project per quarter with the possibility for other minor projects

Unit tests (45% of student’s grade) Essays (25% of student’s grade) Chapter Assessments – Socratic Seminars, Quizzes, etc (20% of student’s grade) Projects (10% of student’s grade)

 Health/PE  Geometry  Biology  English  AP World History A A- B+ A D+/C-

Trending is a tool I use to reward students who work to improve their performance over the course of the year: 1 st Quarter – D+/C- 2 nd Quarter – B- 3 rd Quarter – B+ 4 th Quarter – A These quarter grades will count more towards the student’s final grade

1. The student will complete all reading assignments 2. The student will be ready to participate in class and will participate responsibly 3. The student will advocate for him/herself 4. The student will make up all assessments and missing work in a reasonable amount of time (one week to make up any missed assessments!!!)

What more can I tell you about me or the AP World History Class? If you would like to ask a question or make a comment specific to your child, please feel free to email me at a later time!
