3 3 Dramatic Monologue Example: “Mother to Son” - Langston Hughes ● The monologue is late in the speaker’s life ● She speaks because she feels that her experiences can help her son ● The speech shows that the narrator has had a tough life, but is strong and persevering

4 4 Epigram ● A witty saying o can be in verse or in prose ● Is phrased concisely, often satiric ● Addresses comical subjects or portrays serious ones in a comedic light ● Meant to leave an impression/be memorable
