2 Performance Objectives  Explain the philosophy of team building  Identify the importance of team building within Public Safety Communications  Demonstrate how to play 6 Minute to Win It games

3 What is Team Building?  Team building refers to a wide range of activities designed for improving team performance  Doesn’t just mean getting the team together  Encourages: Self Development, Positive Communication, Leadership Skills, Ability to Work Closely/Problem Solve

4 Why is Team Building Important?  Build relationships/cohesion  Address workplace issues/mend problems  Create fun/silly memories We have an amazing yet stressful career, make it fun, create memories that will last a lifetime  Practice working together in a safe environment Problem solving, delegation

5 Things to Consider  Needs to be a balance between having fun and allowing time for discussion  Dispatching/Call-taking = Individual job vs. coming together in a crisis/high risk incident

6 How Much Time Will This Take?  Decide what games you want to play  Prepare a list of materials needed/cost involved  Gather materials/set-up the game ahead of time  Play game

7 Game Ideas  A Bit Dicey Stack 6 dice on a popsicle stick held in your mouth and balance for 3 seconds 1 player or have 2-3 people playing against each other to see who can complete the challenge first!

8 Game Ideas  Office Tennis- 2 players Crumble up a piece of paper and grab two clipboards. Hit the paper ball back and forth all the way to the waste basket

9 Game Ideas  Back Flip Place pencils on the back of your hand and fling them up to grab them without letting any of them drop. Start out with 2 pencils and build up to a higher number!

10 Game Ideas  Face the Cookie Using only your face, move an Oreo cookie from your forehead to your mouth

11 Game Ideas  Suck it Up Suck up M&Ms with a bendy straw in your mouth Transport them one at a time to vertical straws on a table a few feet away

12 Game Ideas  Sticky Balls Roll marbles down a table Try to get them to stick onto double sided tape placed at the end of the table
