9 Weekly Homework Homework consists of: – Individualized math practice tests – Individualized reading word club levels – Individualized reading book bags – Reading log – Optional computer games and activities – Spelling dictation sentences Homework is due on Thursdays.

10 Fluency Math Tests These are a series of math tests that builds fluency skills. These tests are untimed. Lion Cubs This club focuses on addition and subtraction math facts to 20. There are four tests. Tigers Club This is a more advanced club consisting of four tests covering addition, subtraction and multiplication facts ( 2’s, 5’s and 10’s).

11 200 Word Club Words This is a first grade individualized reading program focusing on common sight words. Our trained parent volunteers run this program. Your child’s reading levels will be recorded each week on their homework cover sheet. For those who enjoy a challenge, they will learn the 400 Word Club words!

12 Phonics: Short Vowels I can read short vowel words. (cat, met, nut) Phonics: Blends I can read words with blends. (blend, camp) Phonics: “H” brothers I can read words with the “h” brothers. (ch, wh, th, sh) Phonics: Suffixes I can read words with endings that have s, ed and ing. (looks, looked, looking) Sight Words (Word Club words) I can read up to the 50’s Word Club words. Sight Words (Word Club words) I can read up to the 150’s or higher Word Club words. Phonics: Long Vowels I can read words with long vowels. (Cake, mule, woke) Spelling in My Stories I can spell grade level words correctly in my stories. Writing I can write a topic and concluding sentence in my stories. Writing I can write details in my stories. Writing I use punctuation marks correctly in my stories. Writing I can write complete sentences. Writing I can write neatly. Reading Fluently I can read fluently. Free Space Reading Literature and Informational Text I can ask and answer questions about key details in a story. Informational Text I know the differences between fiction and nonfiction books. Reading Literature and Informational Text I know the main topic and important details in a story or text. Comprehension I can use illustrations and details to tell what is happening in the story. Reading Literature and Informational Text I can describe the characters, setting and major events in a story. 13 Counting I can count to 120 and count on from any number to 120. 1.NBT.1 Free Space Word Problems I can answer word problems using addition and subtraction within 20. 1.OA.1 Adding Fluently I can add and subtract within 20, and know addition and subtraction to 10 fluently. 1.OA.6 Measurement I can put three objects in order by length. M.1.MD1 Measurement I can count units by laying them end to end with no gaps. M.1.MD2 Data M.1.MD4 I can answer questions about the total number of data points on a tally chart or picture chart. Free Space Geometry I can explain the difference between defining attributes (e.g., sides, angles, faces) and non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientations, overall size) M.1.G.1 Geometry I can build 2-D and 3-D shapes to make a composite shape. M.1.G.2 Geometry I can make new shapes from the composite shape. M.1.G.2 Fractions I can partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares. M.1.MD.3 Free Space Telling Time I can tell time to the hour and half hour. M.1.MD.3 First Semester Year Long Addition and Subtraction Mastery is expected at the end of the year.

14 Important Highlights:  Please send a healthy snack for our afternoon recess and let your child know what it is.  Wear comfortable shoes on our P.E. days Mondays, Thursdays and every other Wednesday.  Homework is important. Please make sure it’s returned on Thursdays.  I have duty immediately after school on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings. I can meet with you afterwards by a prearranged appointment.  Thursday Envelopes: Please read and return the envelopes every Friday.  Closed campus. Unless I hear from you, all students will be released at the front of the school at the end of the day starting next week.
