1 Setting up the Ricoh C305 Press F5 to start the Presentation
Click right mouse button and select “Full Screen” Setting up the Ricoh C305 This PowerPoint presentation is to help you setup up the CPI system on the Ricoh C305 series. The original R&D was based on the 301 series, however the wiring should be identical for both models. To navigate through this presentation press the “Page Up” or “Page Down” keys then press “Enter”.

2 I would like to show you the components that we are going to use in this installation. First we have the Optional Counter Interface, which is our key counter port. We have designed a circuit board that integrates and tracks both the ADF and glass top scanner. Together with the Key counter port they form the system’s main interface module.

3 There is also a reed relay and a magnet, the base components of the copier's Glass top Scanning and tracking mechanism.

4 The interface box, the first pair of wires wire on top are to be soldered to the ADF circuit board while the 2nd pair connect to the reed relay on the glass top scanner. The 20 pin Key Counter Port connector, and of course, the bottom one here is the 9-pin connector that attaches to the CPI system.

5 After you attach the Key Counter Port’s harness to the copier’s main board, you need to mount the circuit board on the interface box and secure it with these 4 screws. This unit then is placed and remains inside the copier.

6 This the back of the copier
This the back of the copier. Here we have the interface box, the 2 cables, one is soldered to the ADF sensor and the other is connect to the relay for glass top scanning.

7 We are now going to work on the ADF circuit board and attach that to our Interface box.

8 First we have to remove the back cover to access the ADF circuit board, remove the screw

9 Open the glass cover and locate the 5 locking hinges
Open the glass cover and locate the 5 locking hinges. Insert a screw driver and carefully pry them open.

10 We are now looking down on the ADF circuit board after the cover is removed. This is the board we are targeting. Remove all connecting cables from the board. Don’t worry, each is a different size and can only go in one direction. Remove the board and focus on the back of it.

11 This is the back of the ADF circuit board
This is the back of the ADF circuit board. You have to solder the Black wire to the 3rd pin from the top right row. The Red wire is soldered to the 3rd pin below it, on the 2nd row. Polarity is important here so make sure you solder the proper pins in a clean manner and they do not contact any other pin or trace.

12 This is where the 2 wires we just soldered attach to the black interface box

13 The 2nd sensor we are going to setup is to detect scans from the glass top scanner.

14 This is 5 relay placed under the glass with this magnet
This is 5 relay placed under the glass with this magnet. They generates a pulse each time a page is scanned.

15 Remove the ADF, turn it around and place it behind the copier while you are setting up the glass top sensor.

16 To access the scanning mechanism, locate and remove all 7 screws from the top panel.

17 Get the relay ready by removing the protective cover at the bottom of its double sided adhesive tape.

18 Scanner 1 2 3 4 5 Place the relay in the 2nd compartment to the right of the scanner, as close you can get to the scanner’s track .

19 Now lets get the magnet ready by removing the protective cover from its double sided tape.

20 1/8 ” Relay Secure the magnet to the right side of the scanner with the metal part under the white ribbon . Make sure it is level to the relay with a gap of about 1/8 of an inch.

21 This is how the setup should look when completed
This is how the setup should look when completed. As the scanner platform slides down it activates the relay sending a pulse to the CPI system indicating a page has been scanned.

22 Lets get these wires routed properly to avoid being damaged when the back cover is placed. Try and guide them around these plastic pathways down to the black interface box.

23 This is how the back of the copier would look with the interface box
This is how the back of the copier would look with the interface box. Try and place the box behind these 2 orange wires. If loose, secure it properly with soft foam or bubble wrap.

24 Replace the back cover. In order to guide the CPI 9-pin connector and harness out, you have to break off and remove one of the bottom notches from the back cover. When done, secure the CPI module with 4 screws drilled into the back of the copier. Make sure you do not damage any of the components during drilling.

25 The “Test chip” will allow you to the test the ADF
and the Glass top sensors. Make sure you reduce the Fax speed to 14.4K Call Basil if you have any questions
