Overall Design Considerations Will it have a locking/ratcheting mechanism? –We plan on using a saw tooth or ratchet design on the leg press Can it be an independent or attachable system? –Most likely not possible in our cost range Consider attaching the pivot points to both sides of uprights to distribute stress. –Good idea, this will likely be used in final design Consider Incline and Decline positions. –Not in scope of project Compare this system to Bowflex systems, etc. –The Bowflex systems are more expensive and do not provide an identical exercise to the bench press

4. Leg Extension System Make it a leg press instead of an extension. –We have planned on implementing this in the design. Take into account exhaustion in legs. –This should not be a factor Is it awkward to do leg extension while benching? –No longer a factor with leg press Is the system stable with leg extension? –No longer a factor with leg press

5. Arm/Catch Mechanism Would catches get in the way of free motion while benching? –Will not be a problem, arms will be relatively wide so they will not hinder motion of user Consider changing the angle of the notch in the catch arms. –This will be done similar to example shown on next slide Will this system be adjustable? –We are attempting to make it work for the middle 90 to 95% of people Consider moment arms and fatigue failure in pivot bolts. –Will be considered when engineering calculations are done
