1 Welcome to JSC’s Aircraft Operations Division (AOD) IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY DIAL 33333 (JSC Emergency Operations Center) TO REACH:  Ambulance  Fire truck  Rescue vehicle  Spill response unit Give the dispatcher your name, the exact location, and brief nature of the emergency ALARMS at NASA: AUDIBLE BELL (FIRE) / AIR HORN (GAS) DO NOT TAKE ANY ACTION OTHER THAN TO EVACUATE TO THE NEAREST DESIGNATED EVACUATION ASSEMBLY POINT. STAY WITH YOUR GROUP AND FOLLOW OTHER NASA EVACUEES. Aviation Safety Brief

2 No Self-Guided Tours - Stay with your group – PLEASE -DO NOT wander off into other work areas including within the aircraft hangars (Ex. There are several restricted areas on the airfield; stay with your group within area of 990 unless escorted) No SMOKING in hangars and flight line. There are designated smoking areas – ask your sponsor. HANGAR HAZARDS DO NOT go through or across aircraft hangars as a matter of convenience. If you must go through the hangar, enter near the yellow walkway at each side and remain in the walkway. DO NOT walk through a personnel door if the hangar doors are moving; DO NOT go through hangar doors if they are in movement. The hangar door have an audible alarm when in movement. 3 FLIGHT LINE/HANGAR SAFETY Things you can be exposed to: High noise levels – Sound attenuators required Jet blast, jet intakes Liquid oxygen servicing and Aircraft refueling (Special events only trained professionals can be around – happens on the flight line) Aircraft being towed or taxied Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Keep up with your stuff – check pockets/ loose gear/jewelry/etc. Tool Control – report all missing tools immediately (Ex: You will have a community tool box – NASA maintenance workers have there own tools that they track) DO NOT BOARD OR ENTER COCKPIT OF ANY AIRCRAFT WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM THE AOD CHIEF OR OPERATIONS DUTY OFFICER. 4 OTHER COMMON HAZARDS Aircraft support equipment being towed into and out of hangars Aircraft on jacks with the landing gear being cycled – Do Not walk under! Sharp surfaces on aircraft – Flaps/Trailing edge of wings/gear doors Air hoses, power cables, grounding wires, and other trip hazards Fuel, hydraulic fluid, water, grease, oil, etc. causing a slip hazard (SLIPS-TRIPS-FALLS Common injuries) NO DRIVING AROUND THE FLIGHT LINE OR HANGARS PPE - Personal Protective Equipment Safety glasses Earplugs readily available MSDS – Material Safety Data Sheets Aviation Safety Brief

5 Lightning Detection System Ellington Field has an Automatic Detection System that activates when lightning is within 6 miles of the airfield. You will hear and see: –7 one second horn blasts –Amber beacon illuminates and rotates (990 has 3 – two on top of hangar and one on pedestrian gate. You cannot be outside for any reason during lightning hold) ALL-CLEAR = No strikes for 10 minutes: –1 continuous horn blast for 7 seconds –Amber beacon secures Aviation Safety Brief

Think - Take an extra minute for safety – be aware of all that is going on around you and work to keep yourself and co-workers safe.
