3 A Private Foundation Working Toward a High Performance Health System Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship Background Funded by The Commonwealth Fund as part of the Vulnerable Populations Program Fellowship program in its 17 th year, and has trained over 100 fellows Based at Harvard Medical School under the direction of Dr. Joan Reede Fellowship formerly known as The Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy. In 2012 the program was renamed in honor of Dr. James Mongan, a leader in health care delivery with a strong commitment to vulnerable populations.

4 A Private Foundation Working Toward a High Performance Health System Mongan Fellowship Background Program Goals : – To prepare physicians for leadership roles in transforming health care delivery systems and promoting health policies and practices that improve access to high quality care for minority, disadvantaged and other vulnerable populations – To support the development of a network of minority physician leaders capable of creating high-performance health systems for vulnerable populations, well-trained in health policy, management, public health, medicine, and committed to pursuing careers in public service Beginning in 2013 Fellowship will offer an optional second year of practicum experience, in which spend one year in a health care delivery system setting, a federal or state agency, or a policy- oriented institution.
