2 Energy efficiency is the priority Belarus' economy is 85% dependent on energy imports; their rational use is critical for the country

3 Important to know #1 The World Bank loan funds have been used to retrofit 674 schools, kindergartens, community homes for the elderly, hospitals, and outpatient clinics serving 550,000 people in 116 settlements across the country

4 Important to know #2 In Minsk alone, the 116 implemented mini- projects led to a reduction in energy consumption by 4,517 Gcal – sufficient for heating an additional small block of twelve 70-apartnment buildings or 10-15 schools for a year

5 Important to know #3 Retrofitting of 498 heat substations has lead to more comfortable and warm indoor environment. Before that, the indoor temperature in some public building varied between 14 - 24° C - either too cold or too hot. The new equipment, with reliable automatic controls, allows for a steady temperature of between 18-20°С

6 Important to know #4 Luminosity of 259 social buildings increased from 200-300lux to above 500 lux. As a result: children eyes suffer about 15-20% less at school lessons

7 Important to know #5 10-15% reduction of diseases accidents among schoolchildren

8 Important to know #6 Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have decreased by over 20 tons

9 Important to know #7 Project-based energy savings are estimated by 55% for electric energy and 15% for heat consumption

10 Important to know #8 Investments payback terms are: 1,2 years for heat units and 6 years for lightening renovation

11 Important to know #9 In 2007, the World Bank provided an additional US$15 million to retrofit about hundred of schools and hospitals across the country
