2. GLOBE a globe is a model of the Earth.

3. A globe shows that the Earth is round like a ball.

4. MAPS a map is a flat picture of the Earth.

5. A world map is a flat picture of the entire Earth.

6. You can use a globe or a world map to find the continents and the oceans.

7. Look at the globe in our classroom. Oceans are usually colored blue on globes and maps.

8. Find the Atlantic Ocean on the globe. Can you find the United States of America on the globe?

9. We have the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Which ocean is to our west?

11. Continents are the big bodies of land you see on the globe or a map.

12. Find North America on the globe. The United States of America is on the continent of North America.

13. There are other countries in North America. Can you find Canada? Can you find Mexico?

15. Directions help people find places on globes and maps. A compass rose shows directions.

17. The North Pole is at the top of the globe. North is the direction going toward the North Pole.

18. The South Pole is at the bottom of the globe. South is the direction toward the South Pole.

19. When you stand facing north, all places to your right are east. All places to your left are west.
