2. November 15, 2000Lee Ann Yasukawa 2 Goals of this project Perform timing tests to see how much data ORACLE can handle. Determine if using ORACLE for archiving is a viable option for the NLC. Allow more data to be archived faster than our current capability allows. Provide more insight into problems/trouble areas that the NLC might encounter.

ORACLE has been optimizing their database for many years and will continue to do so There are new features which tailor the database to data warehouses (i.e. partitioning) ORACLE supports many tools to access and maintain the database (i.e. ORACLE reports, database views, SQL, etc…) ORACLE supports built-in functions which can be accessed to perform calculations on the data (i.e. mean, standard deviation, min, max, etc.) SLAC/Stanford has experience with ORACLE and have licenses for it.
