1. Year 6 SAT’s May 12 - 16th 2014

2. Timetable for the week This is a National timetable and cannot be changed.

3. English English is assessed through: Writing - teacher assessment Reading assessment paper - 4 texts which progressively get more difficult. SPAG - assessed through a paper Examples of papers are displayed at the back of the hall but please do not take them away as we use them with the children.

4. Maths Maths is assessed through: -2 Written papers A and B. From 2014 children will not be allowed to use a calculator in any of the tests -Mental Maths Test. Children listen to a CD and answer 20 questions. The first set of questions are given 5 seconds; the second set are 10 seconds.

5. So how can you help prepare your child? Writing -Ensure that your child is writing in a consistent tense. -Ensure your child uses a range of sentence starters and sentences structures: short sentences -Ensure your child re-reads their work to check it makes sense. -Practise weekly spellings and go over previous weeks spellings patterns. -Ensure that your child uses a range of punctuation effectively.

6. Reading Encourage your child to read at home every night. Listen to them read and talk to them about what is happening. Ask them to give their opinion of the text so they have to think beyond what is actually written. Encourage speed in reading - children only have a set amount of time to read the texts. Historically children have had 15 minutes to read the booklets. This year the test is changing and children will have 4 texts to read. Read a variety of different texts.

7. Maths Practise times tables - the more confident they are, the easier they will find the paper and the mental maths! Money, Time, measure - whenever you have an opportunity at home. Support your child with weekly mental maths homework. Using the inverse operation to check answers as calculators are not being allowed in the Level 3 – 5 assessment paper from 2014.

9. During SAT’s week Please keep your child calm - let us know if your child is worried. Early nights for the week before and during SAT’s please. Breakfast before school. Water bottle in school with fresh water every day. Be on time every day. If your child is sick they cannot sit tests at a different time. If you think they are well enough for the test, please ensure they are in school and they can go home after if poorly.

10. Your child receives results of the tests at the end of July. School sends papers off to be marked and we receive them back with results (usually in the first 2 weeks of July). We have a few days to check any papers. As soon as all results have been received and verified you will be sent the results home as well as teacher assessment levels.
