1 National Hydrography Dataset Stewardship Conference April 24, 25, and 26, 2007 Denver, Colorado

2 Objective: To improve the National Hydrography Dataset by putting it in the hands of those who know the hydrography the best.

3 Premise: It makes sense to have one universal hydrography coverage of the U.S. – NHD For this to work it must fully meet the needs of the user community. The current baseline of the NHD generally meets this need. The NHD must now evolve to a new level of user expectations.

4 Premise: The USGS will not have the resources to bring the NHD to a new level of capability. The users are best suited to do this. But they need the USGS to provide, leadership, guidance, continuity, and assistance. The business needs of the user will drive improvement of the NHD.
