2 National Chapter Award Purpose/Objectives Encourage the development and use of a Program of Activities (POA) Reward chapter accomplishments Recognition for chapter success

3 National Chapter Program Awards Superior Chapter certificate –Complete Form I, State level Gold, Silver, Bronze multi-year plaque –Complete Forms I & II, State level Three, Two, One Star multi-year plaque –Chosen from Gold level applications submitted for national competition

4 National Chapter Awards – cont. Models of Innovation –National Three Star rated chapters eligible to compete for this award –Ten finalists in each of the three divisions oStudent, Chapter, Community  One winner in each division is selected at convention through a presentation/interview process.

5 National Chapter Award Form I Lists and briefly describes one activity for each of the fifteen quality standards. –Student Development oleadership, healthy lifestyles, SAEs, scholarship, agricultural career skills –Chapter Development ochapter recruitment, financial, public relations, leadership, support group

6 National Chapter Award Form I - cont. –Community Development economic, environmental, human resources, citizenship, agricultural awareness Transfer information directly from your completed Program of Activities.

7 Quality Standard Examples Leadership Develop leadership workshops and practice team building skills. Healthy lifestyles Create a drunk driving reenactment accident to discourage drinking and driving. SAE Develop a land laboratory that serves as several students SAE projects. Scholarship Host an achievement banquet or create a program to serve as peer tutors. 8 Quality Standard Examples Continued Recruitment Invite 7 th and 8 th graders to chapter meetings and encourage their involvement. Financial Start a pumpkin patch and market your crop to the community. Public Relations Participate in local radio broadcast to update your school and community about upcoming FFA events and student achievements. Leadership Hold chapter officer workshops prior to new officer elections to instill leadership skills in other members. Support Group Begin FFA internships, were members work on various farms in the area to gain knowledge. National Chapter Award Quality Standard Examples – Chapter Development

9 Quality Standard Examples Continued Economic Host a rodeo or other event like Donkey Basketball that may serve as a money maker and fun activity not only for the chapter members but parents and community members. Environmental Participate in a neighborhood clean-up and beautification. Human resource Have chapter members sponsor a school clean-up program. Citizenship Visit with local senior citizens or host a senior dance or game tournament. Ag awareness Prepare agriculture lessons for elementary schools in your district. 10 National Chapter Award Form II Complete for state recognition – Gold, Silver, Bronze Top three or 10%, whichever is greater, of all applications may be forwarded for national competition. All sent must be rated Gold. National awards of Three Star, Two Star, or One Star

11 National Chapter Award Goals/Objectives What did you want to accomplish? Overall objective of the activity –Purpose or reason for involvement Goals of activity –Three or more specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time- bound (SMART)

12 Goals/Objectives & Quality Standard Alignment When deciding which standard an activity best fits, consider the goals of the activity. What group was being encouraged to develop skills? Who was benefiting?

13 National Chapter Award Plan of Action Who, What, When, Where, Why & How for each goal/objective. Is the plan educational and will it meet the goals of the activity? What ideas were used in the planning process? Is the plan complete? (address each goal)

14 National Chapter Award Results/Evaluation What was accomplished? –Were the goals achieved? (address each goal) –How did this activity benefit or impact the student, chapter, school or community? –What was learned? –Who participated?

15 National Chapter Award Photo & Caption A high quality picture, showing involvement in the activity. 50 word caption that is informative and interesting Do not repeat photos within the application.

16 National Chapter Award General Tips Be sure to get all signatures Use only the space provided and do not attach additional materials to the application. Form I should have 15 different activities, Form II should have 9 different activities, which may come from Form I.

17 National Chapter Award General Tips Use size 12 pica Protect application in some type of binder Print application on white paper Use upper and lower case letters Check grammar and spelling
