2 Welcome To 3rd Grade and Miss D’Andrea’s Class!

Reader’s Workshop Students gather for a mini lesson, where we teach a strategy… During this time, Mrs. Troccolo and I have small group instruction or one-on-one conferences with students. Reading Expectations According to the CT State Standards, students are to read and respond to 25 JUST RIGHT books this year! Students are to read for a minimum of 15 (later will become 20 then 30) minutes each night Students are to log their reading EVERY DAY More importantly, students are to READ, READ, READ!!!

18 Homework Homework is the STUDENT’s responsibility (you all already went through 3rd grade!) Every night, students will have Math, Spelling (on full weeks), Language Arts skills, plus Reading and filling out reading logs! Your student will also know what special they have the next day!

19 Star Student Awards Hand in your homework from each night ON THE DAY IT IS DUE! (Personal Responsibility) Receive: Star Student Certificate/Bookmark Star Student Band Move Watermelons up 2 spaces

3rd Grade is their first CMT experience - Tests given over 2 weeks in March! - Tests: - 1 Writing Prompt - 2 Reading Comprehension tests - 45 minutes each (multiple choice questions and open ended questions) - 2 Math tests: 60 minutes each (multiple choice questions and opened ended questions) - 1 DRP: 60 minutes (multiple choice) - 1 Editing and Revising: 60 minutes (multiple choice)

1. Only talk one at a time. 2. Listen attentively to the speaker. 3. Keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves. 4. Follow directions the first time given. 5. Raise our hands to speak. 6. Show respect to EVERYONE! Rewards 1. Beads in the Reward Jar (Entire class incentive) 2. Individual raffle tickets for the drawing on Friday

Green = Great Behavior (start on green each day) Blue = Warning! Yellow = Lose 5 minutes of extra recess Orange = Lose 10 minutes of Extra recess and write letter about Behavior (to be signed by parent) Red = Isolated lunch, phone call home by student
