2 Agenda The KENET Agenda KENET Network Update
KENET Shared Services Update Conclusion Transforming education through ICT

3 What is Our Agenda The KENET Agenda
International, national and campus network infrastructures What services running on the network? What research infrastructures are available on the local & global network? Can our researchers collaborate nationally and globally? Can our students and researchers have access to broadband connectivity wherever they are? Do the engineers/techies at the institutions have adequate skills to support the broadband network? Transforming education through ICT

4 Network Infrastructure
Total Undersea Capacity of 4.95Gbps Total Distribution Capacity – 30 Gb/s Last Mile Campus Connectivity Approx. 170 campuses connected 44 campuses ( corresponding to 24% of all connected campuses) on over 1Gb/s KENET owned fiber connection 108 campuses (representing 76% of all connected campuses) connected via commercial leased line 70% connectivity on last mile fiber, March 2014 Availability – target 99% and above Last mile back Policy Clean backup power Primary/Backup for InterPOP Links All InterPOP links are backed up. strategic plan envisaged 100% backup for InterPOP links by end of FY 2013/2014. 45% of all connected campuses backed up by March 2014 Google and Akamai Traffic 3.5Gbps Google Traffic 0.5Gbps Akamai Traffic KENET is one of the largest IP broadband networks in Kenya and one of leading African NRENs Transforming education through ICT
