4 What we already know about literal equations A literal equation is an equation with more than one variable. Formulas are literal equations. We will be asked to solve for specific variables in literal equations (when you are, follow same steps as your would for solving normal equations)

16 Roots The square root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number. Example: 4 × 4 = 16, so the square root of 16 is 4. Another example: √36 = 6 (because 6 x 6 = 36) Did you know that it is called SQUARE ROOT because there is an understood two outside of the radical… This number is called the INDEX

17 Third root… (cubed root) Fourth Root… The cube root of a number is a special value that, when used in a multiplication three times, gives that number. Example: 3 × 3 × 3 = 27, so the cube root of 27 is 3.
