2. Kragujevac became the first capital of Serbian Principality in 1818 after the liberation from the Otoman Empire. Headed by Prince Miloš Obrenović, it was the political and cultural center of 19 century Serbia. The First Serbian Constitution was passed in Kragujevac in 1835. THE CITY OF KRAGUJEVAC

3. Prince Miloš Obrenović established the first administrative, educational and cultural institutions in Kragujevac, such as the first court, high school, theater, library, gallery... The first institution of higher education in Serbia was also founded in Kragujevac in 1838 -„Lyceum “. It represented the crown of Prince Milos efforts to establish an institution for educating state administration and officials. The first subjects taught in Lyceum were: 1. philosophy 2. “general" history 3. “pure" mathematics 4. statistics 5. German language and 6. drawing
