3 Project Objectives Complete a Watershed Assessment Complete a Watershed Assessment Completed in June 2002 (NPT and NPNF) Completed in June 2002 (NPT and NPNF) Alleviate sediment input and potential input from road sources Alleviate sediment input and potential input from road sources Design rehabilitation for the upper channel reaches of Newsome Creek affected by past dredge mining Design rehabilitation for the upper channel reaches of Newsome Creek affected by past dredge mining Improve fish passage and alleviate potential culvert problems (undersized) Improve fish passage and alleviate potential culvert problems (undersized)

4 Completed Restoration Work Road Surveys Road Surveys Approximately 220 miles (entire road system) has been surveyed – detail specific surveys, can display results spatially through GPS Approximately 220 miles (entire road system) has been surveyed – detail specific surveys, can display results spatially through GPS Culvert Surveys Culvert Surveys All High Priority culverts have been surveyed using Forest Service National Protocol, these have been prioritized for replacement All High Priority culverts have been surveyed using Forest Service National Protocol, these have been prioritized for replacement

8 Newsome Channel Feasibility Study Newsome Creek has had a legacy of large- scale mining activity creating miles of straightened shallow riffle-type channel lined with hundreds of unvegetated tailings piles. Newsome Creek has had a legacy of large- scale mining activity creating miles of straightened shallow riffle-type channel lined with hundreds of unvegetated tailings piles. We are proposing to rehabilitate approx. 4 miles of stream with these characteristics. We are proposing to rehabilitate approx. 4 miles of stream with these characteristics. Our objective is to restore this section of stream to regain habitat complexity, floodplain connectivity, and functioning riparian corridor.
