6 GEO Task: EC-07-01 Global Ecosystem Observation and Monitoring Network

7 GEO Level Status : Summary Because… WTF-CEOP TT does not have enough resources to take positive actions for participating GEO Tasks. WTF-CEOP TT will close in the next year (see the next slide). 7 GEO Task No.TitleWTF-CEOP TT recommendation WA-06-05In-situ Water Cycle MonitoringTo wait for the authorization of WA-08-P1 Task and its task sheet WA-07-01Global Water Quality Monitoring WA-07-02Satellite Water Quantity Measurements and Integration with In-situ Data To wait for the next update of the task sheet

8 DA-06-04

9 Task POC (Doug Niebert, USGS) has lobbied to merge this task with one of the architecture tasks; that proposal was not accepted. Instead, this task was revised as above.

10 DA-06-04 Focus is now awaiting the outcomes of task AR-06-05 (GEO Clearinghouse) and DA-06- 07 (Web Portal, Registries, and Clearinghouse) From Doug - I changed the intent of the item to direct efforts towards nominating standards and services into the GEOSS Standards and Services Registries, respectively. This would include metadata, data, protocol, and service type standards.

11 Services Search

12 Component Search

13 SIF Search

14 Bottom Line… WGISS participation evident in the AR- 06-05 and DA-06-07 tasks Need will be for a WGISS POC who is familiar with methodologies around searching multiple inventories.

15 Data Management Task DA-06-01 Furthering the Practical Application of the Agreed GEOSS Data Sharing Principles CODATA is lead organization Data Sharing statement proposed for the GEO Ministerial Declaration at the Summit in November in Cape Town: We therefore support the establishment of a negotiating mechanism that would finalise the implementation of the Data Sharing Principles for GEOSS within two years Draft of White paper and implementation guidelines for the GEOSS data sharing principles completed July 2007 Sent out for review to the GEO ADC August 2007 Comments being received and compiled; will be incorporated into white paper in time for GEO Plenary in Cape Town Three hour session on white paper held at GEO ADC in September 2007 in Washington Contact is Bob Chen: bchen@ciesin.columbia.edubchen@ciesin.columbia.edu Kathleen Cass: codata@dial.oleane.comcodata@dial.oleane.com

WGISS-24, Oberpfaffenhofen- October 15~19, 2007 Technology and Services Subgroup Meetings 17 WGISS-GEO Conclusions Clear need for strategic view to guide CEOS WGISS contribution to GEO and GEOSS, complementing continued response to requests from CEOS Plenary, CEOS SIT, and GEO. Multiple voices have brought up desire to structure more time for strategic discussion in upcoming WGISS meetings. Questions/issues How can WGISS TTs, Subgroups coordinate to provide the need element for access, interoperability, and data integration being called for by Virtual Constellations, and for reuse/repurposing for SBAs? The VCs envisioned as perhaps eventually create fused or multi-agency products. How will those be mediated or governed ?

WGISS-24, Oberpfaffenhofen- October 15~19, 2007 Technology and Services Subgroup Meetings 18 WGISS-GEO Way Forward As incoming Chair, I will take the action to work on the issues of WGISS Strategy for GEO, and for suitable Agenda structure, working with appropriate WGISS members. What may I need from you before next meeting? May poll agency members for your agency interest for whatnear-term types of project contributions is of interest (and analyze for overlapping and mutual interest in WGISS and applicability to GEO). Will provide information on progress VC and Joint WTF, and poll for interest at every possible point. Will work with you and listen to ideas in differently structuring WGISS-25 agenda together. Discussion? Little time now, so if you like, I suggest we can continue discussion at Amersee Hotel bar this evening, ~6:30 - 7:30. Get off the bus at Amersee, or walk on over.
