4 Richard Stastny4 Scope of the Austrian ENUM Trials  Provisioning for +43 and +87810  Provide a DNS based infrastructure in ENUM Tier 1 and ENUM Tier 2  Basic administration and validation including the necessary provisioning processes  by ENUM registrars (ENUM Service Providers)  an ENUM Tier 1 registry  Web-Portal for registration of ENUM subscribers and for simple manipulations of the DNS NAPTR records in ENUM Tier 2

5 Richard Stastny5 Scope of the Austrian ENUM Trials  Applications  ENUM client-SW for ENUM users to query the ENUM database  Generic clients  ENUM enabled application clients  ENUM enabled servers  VoIP applications for ENUM subscribers and users (sip and h323)  Evaluation of the services provided and of the user feedback  Monitoring of and interworking with other trials  Evaluation of standards and feedback to the relevant bodies  The first phase of Austrian and VISIONng trials have been feasability studies  Purpose: find out first products and then markets

6 Richard Stastny6 Austrian ENUM Trials - Rollout 2002-03 Start of planning activities 2002-05 +43 and +87810 delegated by ITU-T and RIPE NCC 2002-10 ENUM Trial in full operation: Web-Portal for registration and modification available SIP and H.323 VoIP applications available Clients available 2002-11 ENUM Tier 1 Registry processes fully automated (nic.at) 2003-02 Conversion to ETSI TS 102 172 compliance 2003-03 First phase of trials completed (proof of concept) 2003-04 Second phase started: Corporate customers Free World Dialup and Earthlink are joining VISIONng 2003-06 Linking together different VoIP Applications 2003-07 First ENUM enabled VoIP call between two countries (AT-SK)

7 Richard Stastny7 Current findings  VoIP is now taking off (xDSL, cable, WiFi)  The primary ENUM service is VoIP  in conjunction with IP phones and terminal adapters  but: ENUM and VoIP for residential customers has yet to overcome Metcalfe's law (n 2 - n)  most beneficial in corporate (private) environment  as replacement of existing PBX or Centrex solutions  preserving the existing dialing plan  Corporate solutions as inroad for  other services  home workers, road warriors

8 Richard Stastny8 VoIP and ENUM activities planned  ENUM Administration  ENUM Validation Architecture using RADIUS  E.164 Certificates, Trust Circles  Use ENUM for Interconnection of Private Networks  Upgrade the Registry and Registrar Functions accordingly  ENUM Usage, VoIP and other Services  Upgrade ENUM Clients  ENUM-enabled Applications e.g. Softphones, PDAs, Mobile Phones, Outlook  ENUM-enabled Server und IP PBX e.g. SER, Asterisk,...  Linking VoIP Applications with ENUM nationally and internationally  Network Asserted Identities, RPID, CLI,...  Implement SS7 Gateways, SIM-Card Roaming,...  Feedback to Standardisation and cooperation with other Trials (good contacts with UK, SE, DE, CH, US, AU, FI, SK...)
