Till 1972, the DGCA was the regulator as well as the service provider for CNS and ATM and also managed all the airports in the country. 1972 - International Airports Authority of India (IAAI) formed (to manage four international airports - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai ) 1986 - National Airports Authority (NAA) (to manage the domestic airports) 1995 - IAAI and NAA merged to form the present Airports Authority of India (AAI)

A sound system of control and supervision existed in India.
