5 CAHSEE You must pass both the Language Arts (English) and Mathematics sections of the CAHSEE in order to receive a High School Diploma. 350 is a passing score. Seniors have 3 opportunities to take the CAHSEE : –Fall 2014: Nov 4 th and 5 th –Winter 2015: Feb 3 rd and 4 th –Spring 2015: May 12 th and 13 th

9 What if I Need To Make Up Missing Credits/Requirements? Talk to your Counselor ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are ways you can make up credits! –Adult Education –ROP classes –Palomar Community College –0/7 th period in Learning Center –Elective Exploration through ABC

10 Step 3 ATTENDANCE You miss out when you are not in class. Remember after 8 tardies/truancies you may be dropped from a class with an “F”. “F”= no credits! You must clear of all your Saturday Schools and Detentions in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.

13 Your future starts NOW! What are 5 things you should do between now and December to prepare for your post high school plan?

14 If you’re going to a 4 year university… Sign up ASAP to take/retake your SAT or ACT by November 30th Study for your SAT/ACT Decide where you’re applying Make a plan to repeat D/F grades Submit UC and CSU applications by November 30 Visit college campuses Begin researching scholarship opportunities Meet with your counselor to make sure you’re on track to apply Request letters of recommendation Make sure you’re passing all classes with a grade of C or higher And…

Students must take exams by Nov 30th of their Senior year.

17 Need Help Applying To Universities? Attend the College Basics Workshop on Sept 30 th. If you can’t make it, see your counselor during nutrition break or lunch. Attend the Counseling ABC College Application Workshops every Thursday Oct 2 nd -Nov 20 th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm in the College & Career Center. Mr. Ramirez will be available in Room 731 during class time. Must have Teacher/Parent permission to miss class. See your counselor for dates and to get a permission slip. Mrs. Wilson will be available in the College & Career Center during lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays Oct 10 th – Nov 18 th

21 Vocational & Technical Programs In order to apply: Make sure the program is accredited Must be 18 years of age Must have High School Diploma Deadlines vary so need to look into the program. Questions to ask about job placement: % of people that are able to find employment after they complete the program? Do you provide services for job placement and if so for how long? ***Nearly all training offered at vocational schools can be done at a community college for a fraction of the cost***

22 If you’re going into the military… Research which branch will be the best match for you Study for the ASVAB Take the ASVAB Meet with a recruiter Make sure you’re eligible to join Keep up with physical conditioning through PE, sports or other activities Meet with your counselor to make sure you’re on track to graduate- you must have a diploma from a comprehensive high school, NOT Valley or Adult Ed! 26 Know How To Finance Your Future Financial Aid Loans –Subsidized –Unsubsidized Grants Work study Scholarships –Mrs. Steadry will be coming to senior English classes in December to give out more information. –Ask your English teacher for access to the online Scholarship List for OGHS

27 Financial Aid Is Not Just For Students Going To A 4-Year University Financial Aid is available for ALL accredited vocational and technical programs, community colleges and 4-year universities. Must fill out the FAFSA or Dream Act You can start applying January 1 st 2015 Deadline to apply is March 2 nd 2015 Check with our register (Mrs. Krebs) to see if you turned in your CAL Grant verification form. Counseling department will be hosting a financial aid night: Wednesday, January 14 th, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 8:00pm. FAFSA workshop: Monday, February 4 2nd 2015 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm ***Dates/times may change. Seniors will be notified as the dates get closer***
