3 How was Rutherford’s atomic model arranged? Rutherford’s model  All of an atoms positive charge located in the center of the atom  Almost all the mass was located at the center of the atom

6 What was missing from Rutherford’s model? Unanswered Questions (Atom)  Did not explain how the atoms electrons were arranged around the nucleus  Did not explain why the negative electrons were not pulled into the positive protons

7 Unanswered Questions (Continued)  Rutherford’s model could not explain chemical behavior among the elements.

8 How did scientist discover information about chemical behavior?  Scientists found out that chemical behavior was related to the arrangement of the electrons in an atom.  Scientists observed that certain elements emitted visible light when heated in a flame.

9 How does light behave?  Light has both characteristics of a particle and a wave.

10 What is electromagnetic radiation?  A form of energy that exhibits wave like behavior as it travels through space.
