A COMPARISON OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT THEORIES

VIEWPOINT EvolutionistsCreationistsInterventionists All things developed from one simple form of life or a few simple forms Different/complex forms developed as a result of adaptation to various environments. Matter and all things were created in much the same forms as they exist now by an all-powerful creator. Human beings evolved to the Homo Erectus stage At this stage, a superior force changed Homo Erectus into human beings similar to modern ones.

KEY IDEAS EvolutionistsCreationistsInterventionists Darwin’s Survival of the Fittest Occasional mutations give one animal an advantage over another Humans evolved from an ape-like form and have a genetic relationship with apes. Rely heavily on religious explanation. Book of Genesis Early created by God in 6 days appx. 10 000 yrs ago. God created humans in his image. Offended by evolutionists because they link humans to the ape (which is of lower intelligence) Believes there was an intervention by which ape-like figures turned into humans. Superior force (i.e. a meteor) interfered causing a more sudden physical change in the Homo Erectus) Many human chromosomes are similar to ape chromosomes

KEY PEOPLE EvolutionistsCreationistsInterventionists Charles Darwin Johann Fredrich Blumembach John T. Scopes Christian fundamentalist s who accept the Book of Genesis literally Alfred Russell Wallace Albert Einstein

QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE VIEW POINT EvolutionistsCreationistsInterventionists Fundamentalists believe this theory is sacrilegious Evidence to support the theory is fragmentary Interventionists say the process of evolution is too slow to account for the rapid changes How did the first matter get here? Have lost several court cases in which they have tried to have creationism taught as the only explanation for the origins of humans. How is it possible to create something out of nothing? There is no physical proof of a superior being. How would a superior being have that great of an impact on the human race to change them so greatly without killing them first. There is no other proof/evidence of a superior being or event that caused this effect.

THE EVOLUTION OF EVOLUTIONISM Pre 1920s: Creationism was the only theory taught in school. In the USA, John T. Scopes challenges this law by teaching evolution in his science class.John T. Scopes  Famous Trial (Scopes Trial)  Evolution is brought to public view Today: Creationism is illegal to teach as the sole theory of the development of the human race. Teachers have been reprimanded for not teaching Evolution.
