3. CHAPTER TWO PAGES 10-11  We will be reading this text to discover how the Iroquois used the natural world to meet their needs.  Follow along as I read page 11. Then fill in the missing words on the graphic organizer.  Be thinking about the main idea of this passage and details that support it.

4. CHAPTER TWO PAGES 12-14  This part of the chapter is mostly about the longhouses that the Iroquois lived in.  One word you might not know is “palisades”- Palisades are tall log fences that protected the people and their villages from wind, wild animals, and enemy attacks.  Listen as I read and follow along.  Think about the main idea of this section and details that support it.

5. CHAPTER TWO PAGES 14-15  Longhouses continued  Growing Food  Listen to find out how the Iroquois people gathered, grew, and prepared their food.  Use details from the passage to complete the graphic organizer.  Strawbery Juice  This page contains background information and a recipe that combines two traditional Iroquois foods.  The author included this in the text to show us that Iroquois people enjoyed some of the same food we like today.
