2 INTRODUCTION SABCOHA/JBIC collaboration Recognition that companies have taken steps to address HIV/AIDS but there were gaps and need to improve effectiveness of programs. 2007 Agreement for collaboration Target – sector response in the motor industry/ in the mining sector Improvement programme to be informed by the participants.

3 PARTICIPANTS Motor industry participants: BMW South Africa Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa General Motors South Africa Mercedes-Benz South Africa Nissan South Africa Toyota South Africa, and Volkswagen South Africa Mining company: Hernic Ferrochrome (Pty) Limited and 19 contractor companies

4 THE INTERVENTION Collaboration with two accredited service providers RedPeg Pty Ltd Aganang HIV/AIDS Resource centre Interventions in the OEM sector Rapid Appraisal Overview of sector programmes Capacity building and support needs Recommendations for interventions

5 Capacity building interventions Development of a database of HIV/AIDS service providers Easy assessment and contracting on different services Information on accredited training KAP survey (Nissan) Training of master trainers (Nissan & Toyota) Training of HIV/AIDS peer counsellors (Ford, GMSA,VWSA) HIV/AIDS supply chain models (Nissan, Toyota) HIV/AIDS Capacity building seminars for managers (Nissan, Toyota)

6 Mining company’s interventions Hernic Ferrochrome (Pty) Limited interventions Purpose was to ensure that Hernic and its contractors respond appropriately to HIV/AIDS Target : Hernic + 19 Contractor Companies Management training HIV/AIDS policy formulation/evaluation Peer educator training VCT
