Zee Mikrosköp No…It’s Not Real German.

The Microscope Microscopes use a variety of lenses to magnify very small objects so we can see the details of their structures. This makes them great for cell studies. The bulk of this presentation will “focus” on the compound light microscope. See what I did…”focus”…get it?...wicked!
3
The Compound Light Microscope A compound light microscope uses a focused light beam and lenses to form a magnified image of the specimen.

Picture Perfect There are several factors that must be considered when trying to find an image using the microscope. Magnification Magnification The number of times larger the image is compared to the specimen. The number of times larger the image is compared to the specimen. Electron Microscopes Electron microscopes use a beam of electrons, instead of light, to relay information about the specimen. They magnify anywhere from 300,000x to 1,500,000x. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) New technology has led to the development of the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) and the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) which allow scientists to see molecules within a cell!
