Rebold from material provided by Bruce Mayer, PE, Chabot College Assignment  Design for YOURSELF a Course-By- Course, and Term-by-Term Plan to Obtain a Baccalaureate Engineering Degree from a Transfer University  To Include (examples follow) Your Choice of Engineering Discipline Year and Semester/Quarter Institution = MPC + Transfer-University Course: Title, Number, Unit Value

Rebold from material provided by Bruce Mayer, PE, Chabot College Constraints  Time limit  Work responsibilities  A convoluted web of requirements— Gen Ed as well as Technical Most schools recommend favoring Tech classes at MPC Math/Physics/Engr Web is challenging –minimum 2 years –Possibly longer due to some classes offered only in spring/fall

6 Some Points from UC Davis Meeting MPC fully articulated with Davis! – CSIS 10A, 10B in place of ECS 30, 40 Enrollments up in Civil, Mech Engr Transfers perform at same GPA, success as “natives” Berkely EE100 can be qualified by CC course, units met thru upper div electives

7 UC Gen Ed/Articulation Issues IGETC not suitable for engineering majors – Students advised to concentrate on major courses at community colleges SCIGETC attempts to remedy, – Leaves out engineering core courses needed to xfer – Leans to bio sciences ETC planned forthcoming – Includes core Calculus/Physics/Chemistry + English + Engineering See answers for transfers online

8 UCSD Unlike all other UCs, UCSD puts engineering core classes in upper division Students need to appeal when they arrive on campus – paperwork can be completed in advance

9 ETC Base (not yet approved) 2 courses in English Comp/Critical Thinking [optional] 1 course ea in (arts/humanities) (social/behavioral science) MATH 20A, 20B, 20C, 32 PHYS 3A,3B,3C CSIS 10A Intro to Programming [recommend] Intro to Engr/Skills for success SPEECH 1 Public Speaking (req’d CSU, recom UC)

10 ETC Advanced (focus on major/school) MATH 31 Linear Algebra CHEM 1A + Lab Choose 1 of following sequence – Chem thru second organic chem (ChemE) – Frosh chem, 2 bio incl cellular (BioE, BioInformatics) – Circuits, materials, computer org (EE, ECE) – Circuits, computer org, data structures (CompE) – Computer org, data structures, discrete math (CS) – Statics, circuits, materials, graphics (MechE, CivilE) Many ENGR majors should take Unix (CSIS 80) After ETC Base, check grades, choose school/major, then…

11 ETC Advanced at MPC MATH 31 CHEM 1A + Lab Major – ChemE: CHEM 1B, CHEM 12A, CHEM 12B – BioE, BioInformatics: CHEM 1B, BIOL21,BIOL22 – EE,ECE: ENGR 12, CSIS 11 – CompE: ENGR 12, CSIS 11, CSIS 10B – CS: CSIS 11, CSIS 10B, MATH 40 – MechE, CivilE: ENGR 8, ENGR 12, ENGR 2
