Class Feedback Where do we take this course?

Common Theme Among Responses Please, no PowerPoint barrage Utilize the server to create a “real world” experience Not sure what to suggest, but make the class count Concern for grade

Suggested “Real World” Projects I've worked with storefronts before, so I'm more interested in seeing how other technologies - blogs/wikis/etc - can be applied to a business setting I can't say there is one particular idea that I have, but I would love to see as much as I could within the semester. I guess that is an idea in itself though. What if we set something up that was an online marketing strategy that promoted a brand or object or some sort of loyalty system that rewarded repeat customers, etc. Is that sort of something you were looking for? I would like to build a wiki. I think it will be a valuable experience for us, considering knowledge management is very important in every company.

Suggested “Real World” Projects The class can be divided into groups and each group can pursue their own idea such as a blog or a storefront, and if you would like you can measure the results based on hits, users, or something in that nature. I was thinking about a storefront or blog that would give information/downloadable software to solve the antivirus 2009 virus. Just looking at this campus, I would be willing to pay a nominal fee if I was infected as oppose to UNIT ghosting my computer and losing all of my files. I know Best Buy and other stores charge upwards of $200 to examine and clean the virus. What I would like to get out of your class, is to learn hands-on something that I will actually use in the future. I do not have much experience with databases, so this is all new to me.

Suggested “Real World” Projects An idea I was thinking about was to start an online interactive game were people play with or against each other. Players join the game for free, but to start ahead in the game they are allowed to “donate” real money. I think it would be very interesting to make a sheet music database, where users can submit their own interpretations of songs, or write their own sheet music which can be viewed for free by site visitors, as well as having the official sheet music from major companies, which can profit from allowing users to print or view the music (because it is copywritten).

Suggested “Real World” Projects A site that sells Fantasy Football info, predictions, recommendations, drafting advice A site that keeps track of time for consultants. They could login and record their time for billing purposes. A site that listed new releases of DVD’s, BLU-Ray. What is out now and what is coming soon. A pseudo help desk site, people constantly call me and ask me questions or help with their computing issues. I would call it “The Bob Squad” Something for kids, kid friendly so the parents wont worry. I know my 6 yr old goes on the web and he makes me nervous.

Suggested “Real World” Projects I know Villanova's Residence Life could use an online system for tracking RA programming which would incorporate a front end and database I do think you are right that the best learning is actually doing something insteading going through a book chapter by chapter and not even retaining half of what you have read. I was thinking of an e-business that would sell, as a service, management of google adwords. This would be targeted at small to medium sized businesses where the owners aren't tech savy. I would suggest we make a site that hosts legal torrents. The list may be small, but it can be useful. And it could potentially expand provided we find the right torrents.

Suggested “Real World” Projects I think it would be really interesting if we could learn how to create blogs, wikis, and podcasts and also understand the importance of each. I think it would be a good idea to make a website for Villanova students to sell/trade their textbooks. I was thinking either a craigslist or half.com kind of website. I would love to get all the hands-on in class that we can actually use when we start at our workplaces and also give us the advantage in moving forward with all the up- to-date knowledge on technology Creating a fully functional e-business sounds like a very interesting and worth while way to teach the course material

Next Steps Organization of class into functions –Roles & Ownership Exploration of available software –Can it be adapted –Is there enough interest for a “group” Can we build a “business case” Can the endeavor be achieved in 14 weeks Will we need “support” services How much “text book” is needed to understand –What you are doing –How it will have to be managed
