August 2014 Course Development with Instructional Design and Technology (IDT)

We Heard You! Simplification, Collaboration, Flexibility Simplification No contracts external to the College or School Intake Form reduced from 4 pages to one No policy verification by IDT Two Options with Course Development

Simplification, Collaboration, Flexibility Collaboration Good communication will be even more critical to success Needs to start early: Establishing Term Date for first offering Forecasting is still needed (1 year ahead)

Simplification, Collaboration, Flexibility Flexibility No time limitations given by IDT Schedule will show time requirements to meet a particular term start Two Options for Course Development Support (no longer one size fits all) Option 1 Option 2

Option 1- Total Course Development Support Full collaborative support for faculty From inception to ready to deliver A managed development process Faculty meet regularly with IDT Best for faculty new to course development or preference to a guided process

Option 2- Range of Support for Course Development Consultation Total flexibility and allows for completely independent work Faculty select aspects of Course Development that they want supported Faculty manage the development process themselves Faculty pull IDT in when needed Best for experienced faculty

How Does This Work? Pre-Work Regardless of option chosen, there is pre-work for the school or college Confirming the delivery methods of the course and what term hoping to have it offered. Determining what faculty will be involved in the design and development of the course Does faculty have available time to support the course development effort? Does faculty have appropriate skill set for course development

Starting The Process Point of contact from the school or college submits support request form to IDT IDT reviews form For Option 1 request, IDT notifies point of contact that resources have been allocated or that additional discussion is needed For Option 2 request, IDT ID manager and IT manager schedule a meeting with point of contact to identify the nature and scope of the project, and to allocate appropriate resources At the very least, reporting will show status of all courses active in the course development process

Considerations Major Change – we will have continuous process improvement. IDT has a finite amount of resources, this process will require very good communication and collaboration. Term date cannot be due date for all courses Schedule plus workload will determine term availability ADA Compliance Quality Assurance
