Nucleus Nickname: “The Control Center” Function: Holds the DNA Directs all cell activities Contains instructions for everything the cell does Parts: Nucleolus: dark spot in the middle of the nucleus that helps make ribosomes Nuclear Membrane: separates nucleus from cytoplasm controls movement of materials in & out of nucleus

For cells with cell walls, the cell membrane is inside the cell wall Function: Protects the cell, and allows food, oxygen, & water into the cell & waste products out of the cell.
