2 Using Capital Letters  1- Capitalize the first word in every sentence. My sister has soccer practice after school. Then she has to do her homework.  The 1 st word of a directly quoted sentence should begin with a capital letter, whether or not the quotation comes at the beginning of your sentence. Reiko asked, “Have you finished your report?”  The first word in every line of a poem usually begins with a capital letter He’s white As spilled milk, My cat who sleeps With his belly….
