North Somerset CCG – our context Health better than UK average Growing Older population – 20% over 65 (England & Wales = 16%) There are a greater proportion of people in nursing homes in North Somerset in comparison to England Health Inequalities - Gap in life expectancy (10.7 year for males and 7.5 for females) and disability-free life expectancy (12.2 for males and 9.3 for women) Drug misuse higher than UK average (rehab centres in Weston- super-Mare) The biggest causes of premature death in North Somerset are circulatory diseases, which include heart disease and stroke, and cancer. The single biggest cause of disability is mental health. Suicide rates are significantly higher than the national average
