 What is the history of Salvation?  What is the universal call to holiness?

 The history of salvation can be seen as creation in holiness, fall from grace, Christ’s objective redemption, and the subjective redemption to each one of us.

 God calls each person to holiness through one’s own personal cooperation with God’s freely offered grace.  Video: What’s God’s Plan for me?What’s God’s Plan for me?

 What are the kinds and purposes of grace?  What is the common priesthood of the laity?  What is the vocation of the laity?  How is Christian morality an imitation of Christ?  What is conversion of heart?

 God gives us sanctifying and actual graces so that we may answer his call to holiness.  Sanctifying grace us a stable disposition of the soul that we receive in Baptism by which we share in the life and love of the Blessed Trinity.  Actual grace refers to all the particular, transient helps God gives us in the circumstances of our lives which allows us to conform to his will.

 By Baptism, all Christians, including the laity, share in the common priesthood of the faithful, called to offer their lives to God as a spiritual sacrifice.

 The vocation of the laity is to sanctify ordinary life.

 Christian morality is an imitation of the attitudes and actions of Christ, the perfect man and model.  Video: Isn’t Church to Restrictive?Isn’t Church to Restrictive?

 To be a disciple of Christ, we must undergo a conversion of heart to love as Christ loves.  It means aligning one’s heart and will with Christ’s so that we love as Christ loves, and hate what Christ hates.  Basically, Christ loves people, and hates sin.  Some of the hardest conversion of heart is loving people despite their faults and loving one’s enemies.

 What is the relationship between natural law, the Decalogue, and Law of Christ?  What are the Beatitudes?  What are the Precepts of the Church?

 All men are obliged to obey the natural law. (Objective order by God that determines the requirements for humans to thrive and reach fulfillment.  The Ten Commandments are a Revelation of the natural law for the Chosen People.  Christians obey the Ten Commandments as perfected by Christ. For example, the fifth commandment forbids injuring someone by murder. The Law of Christ seeks to give us a heart that does not harbor angry resentment against the murderer, but to foster an active love of neighbor in word and deed, including our enemies.

 The Beatitudes are paradoxical statements of the true values that a disciple of Christ should possess. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10Matthew

 The Precepts of the Church are changeable laws which a Catholic obeys to draw closer to Christ. 1. You shall attend Mass on Sundays and all Holy Days of Obligation and rest from servile labor. 2. You shall confess your sins at least once a year. 3. You shall receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season. 4. You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church. 5. You shall help provide for the needs of the Church.

 What is faith?  What are the sins against faith?  What is hope?  What are the sins against hope?

 Faith is the theological virtue by which God and all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief.  The sins against faith are: 1. Voluntary doubt-intentionally calling into question the truth of some aspect of Divine Revelation. 2. Schism-refusal to submit to the authority of the Pope or the Bishops, who are in communion with him. 3. Heresy-denial of a baptized person of one or more of the tenets of faith. 4. Apostasy- A total repudiation of the Catholic faith. 5. Atheism-Denial of the existence of God.

 Hope is the theological virtue by which we look forrward to the happiness of external life with God, trusting that God will give us the graces necessary to achieve it.  The sins against hope are: 1. Despair-the loss of trust in God because of doubt in his fidelity or his interest in each of us. 2. Presumption-the expectation of salvation without personal effort or without God’s help.

 What is charity?  What are the sins against charity?  What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?  What are the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

 Charity is the theological virtue by which a person loves God above all things and loves his neighbor as himself.  The sins against charity include: 1. Indifference-refusal to reflect on the prior goodness of divine charity, resulting in a lack of commitment to exercise the faith. 2. Lukewarmness-failure or hesitation to respond to God’s love. 3. Acedia-refusal of the joy that God gives 4. Hatred of God-opposes the love of God, denies his goodness, and curses him as the one who forbids sin, and inflicts punishment.

 The gifts of the Holy Spirit, given in Baptism, are: 1. Wisdom-enjoying the presence of God 2. Understanding-discerning divine truths 3. Counsel-making wise decisions 4. Fortitude-having strength of character 5. Knowledge-using created things wisely 6. Piety-knowing God as Abba or Father 7. Fear of the Lord-serving God faithfully

 The fruits of the Holy Spirit are any supernatural acts that are performed easily, with peace and joy, flowing from the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
