6 Chapter Overview 15 September 2011 North Star Chapter 6 Event Calendar Complex Systems for the Systems Engineer by Sarah Sheard INCOSE NORTH STAR CHAPTER - FALL TUTORIAL Saturday, 15 October, 2011 Honeywell in Golden Valley, MN Registration begins at 8:30 AM, presentation from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Synopsis: Sarah Sheard is the head of INCOSEs Complex Systems working group and she will discuss complexity as it relates to systems engineering. She looks into the sciences of chaos theory and its daughter science, complexity, and shows how these fields can be adapted to help improve systems engineering for the more complex systems-of- systems that are being developed today. Registration Deadline is 4:00 PM Friday, 7 October 2011.

For 2011, a $50 gift certificate for BP gasoline will be awarded to every member attending six or more regular meetings or who brings one new member into the chapter. (Note – You must be a member in good standing for the entire year to qualify) For guests or members attending for the first time, this also insures your notification by email of all subsequent events. Technical Leadership is not Optional for System Engineers Paul Frenz, CSEP spent over 20 years in commercial software product development before coming to GDAIS in 2001. He is a senior systems engineering technical manager here and has lead the System Engineering measurement program that he helped develop. He holds undergraduate degrees in Business Administration, Public Accounting and Quantitative Methods and a Masters degree in Software Design and Development. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt and an active member of the North Star Chapter of INCOSE, serving as President for 2011. Paul Frenz 13

20 Chapter Overview 15 September 2011 North Star Chapter MnSPE and All Engineering Societies for Engineers Night with the Saints Tuesday, May 24 is Engineers Night at the Saint Paul Saints. They are holding a special recognition evening for the engineering industry and are inviting engineers to attend the baseball game. As part of this, MnSPE would like to invite you and the members of your society to attend the evening with us. We have reserved a private tent for a pre-game tailgating dinner which includes traditional ballpark fare grilled on-site, pop/water, $1 beers and pre-game activities.
