3 Objectives List three types of cloud forms. Create a cloud. Identify four kinds of precipitation.

4 Clouds A cloud is a collection of small water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air, which forms when the air is cooled and condensation occurs. Clouds are classified by form, and by altitude.

5 Clouds, continued Cumulus Clouds are puffy, white clouds that tend to have flat bottoms. Normally mean Fair weather -large dark= storms Thunderstorms come from Cumulonimbus Stratus Clouds are clouds that form in layers, cover large areas. Cause by gentle air lifting. Dark clouds mean steady rain. Fog is a stratus cloud near the ground. Cirrus Clouds are thin, feathery, white clouds found at high altitudes. Means the weather will change soon.

8  High clouds Cirro- is used to describe clouds high in the atmosphere. Made up of ice crystals  Middle clouds Alto- is used to describe middle level clouds, made up of water and ice  Low clouds have no prefix and are made up of water. Clouds, continued

11 Precipitation Rain is the most common form of precipitation. Sleet and Snow Sleet forms when rain falls through a layer of freezing air. Snow forms when temperatures are so cold that water vapor changes directly to a solid. Hail are balls or lumps of ice that fall from clouds.
