The Progressive Era: 1901-1920 Using historically accurate cartoons from a variety of sources, please analyze each of the cartoons. What event is portrayed by the cartoon? What caused Progressives to take up this particular interest? Did the viewpoint of the cartoonist prove to be accurate? (analysis) As always: accuracy, attention to evidence and specific details are most important. One source I am recommending. All the others you wish to choose on your own..gov.org.edu sites are best please. 2 PARENT: "No, Sir, I don't send 'em to work from greed, but because I've got to. But if I done it from downright Selfishness, what do you think of the Social conditions of a Republic that would turn parents into something worse than brutes?" Uncle Sam holds a document labeled, "Land Monopoly System, High Tariff, Trust Rule." Citation: Bengough, John Wilson. The Public 6 (May 16, 1903). What issue is highlighted here? What effort in 1916 and again in 1938 dealt with this? Exactly how worrisome was the problem?

A June 1919 or August 1920 event (same topic) is referenced here. How popular was its support among Republicans, Democrats and the new Progressive Party?

Progressives tackled tough financial issues too! What 1913 act and new institution under President Wilson is referenced here? What role does it play ?

How did Progressives respond to the public’s demand for “fair play” when it came to paying for all the new agencies of the Federal Government? A 1913 event is eferenced and quality responses will include how this event improved upon a 1909 failure by the federal government to raise revenue.

Making Congress more responsible to the public needs was prioritized during the Progressive Era. What 1912/1913 event is noted and why was it so important to Americans

Some Progressives moved outside the political realm and dealt with longer-term concerns. What political interest is reflected in this cartoon? What real successes were made during this 1900-1920 era?
