Monitoring and evaluation tools of goals at different levels : (quantifiable and time-bound) – Safe drinking water – Sanitation and hygiene – Water quality – Water-related ecosystems – IWRM – Water efficiency – Y Quantifiable indicators addressing each targets evolution Transparent mapping tools online

3 2.WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR water management institutions TO ADDRESS THESE NEEDS? Capacity gap needs to be filled – disparity from urban to rural is huge Conventional and bureaucratic mindset needs to be altered (fear of change) Commitment gap – values and organizational culture Several developing countries lack the software and hardware to deal with challenges Enabling environment Develop ‘serious games’ for decision makers to improve their knowledge and awareness

What are the needs that various water users have which could be answered through new technologies? 1 st : Identify the type of water user Need for: -Capacity development to know how to operate technologies -Enabling environment – address social issues within technology -Making new technology ‘sexy’ - incentives -Water resources assessments -Establish a water balance (quantity and quality) -Decision makers need informed decisions for water allocation -Monitoring water resources (quantity and quality) -Disaster preparedness (early warning systems) -Water accountability in terms of fees -Overall transparency: checks and balances at decision-making levels -Database and data allocation and analysis, validation and maintenance New technologies: -Real time information -Technologies that make impact in individual lives (small-scale farmer fertilizer) -Location-specific data/ tailored information
