Should other people be able to decide what you wear to school? Many school administrators and leaders feel that students should be dressed in uniforms to show school pride, eliminate fights over clothing and gang affiliation, and help the students stay focused in the classroom. Students and some teachers, however, feel that uniforms are unnecessary and limit students’ ability to express their individuality. Clearly, students should be able to choose their own clothing for school and not be limited by a uniform. Intro Paragraph

Clearly, students should be able to choose their own clothing for school and not be limited by a uniform. Thesis Statement

6 Persuasive Essay Break-Down
To begin, school uniforms prevent students from being able to express themselves. Students show who they are through what they wear, and as long as they are dressed appropriately, they should be able to choose what clothes fit them the best. For instance, when a girl or guy is dressed in his/her own style, he/she feels more outgoing and comfortable. When students are given an outlet to express who they are, they feel happier and are more likely to engage in school. Feeling uncomfortable and unattractive in a school uniform actually Claim One + Supports/Evidence

Secondly, students are mature enough to decide what they will and will not wear to school. As teenagers, students deal with difficult issues at home, in relationships, and in school. For example, some students have to take care of younger siblings, children, and themselves. If they are capable of handling the stress of these issues, they are more than capable of choosing their own outfits for school. High school is supposed to prepare students for adulthood. Your future employer or college professor won’t be picking out your clothes for you. Claim Two + Supports/Evidence

Finally, some people say that school uniforms prevent violence in schools, but this is not necessarily true. Most of the time, fights are started over personal issues, relationships, and other problems. They are created by “he said, she said” issues that normally have nothing to do with what the students are wearing. It reminds me of the well-known quote, “Guns don’t kill people, people do.” This is the same situation. The clothes do not cause the students to fight; the students do. Counter Argument!

9 Persuasive Essay Break-Down
To end, students should be able to choose their own clothes for school; they should not be limited to a school uniform. It is important that, as students, we stand up for what we want and try to make changes within our school. It is time to take a stand against uniforms. Start petitions, talk with administrators at your school, and take back your right to dress! Conclusion/ Call-To-Action!
