2 Elementary Physical Education Philosophy
The purpose of the Grafton elementary physical education program is to help young people acquire the skills, knowledge, and self-confidence they need to participate in a wide variety of physical activities and sports – while in school and for life. With these qualities we hope to enhance the social, emotional, and psychological development of each student. Additionally, we look to our parents and partner to help promote and develop a healthy lifestyle at home.

3 The Goal of Physical Education
Our goal as physical educators is to provide a quality Physical Education program that will allow every student to be successful and develop a healthy lifestyle.

4 Meet the Elementary Physical Educators
Mr. Jim Kehoe — Grafton & Woodview Elementary Schools Mr. Sam Huber — Kennedy & Woodview Elementary Schools Mrs. Caroline Bate — Woodview Elementary School Mrs. Sonja Justesen – Adaptive P.E. All Schools

5 Elementary P.E. Curriculum
The elementary emphasis will focus on motor skill development, sport skill development, and movement concepts. Students will begin to explore the physical environment in a developmentally appropriate fashion. Activities will focus on movement concepts such as space awareness, traveling patterns, transferring weight, balancing; as well as motor/sport specific skills such as kicking, punting, throwing, striking, volleying, and dribbling.

6 Physically Educated Persons:
Has skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities. Is physically fit. Participates regularly in physical activity. Knows the implications of and the benefits from involvement in physical activities. Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle. 7 Elementary Physical Education Rules for Success
Students are expected to: Participate in all activities Respect all people and use equipment properly Wear their gym shoes and appropriate attire everyday Follow directions and be an active listener Be prepared with a positive attitude Try their BEST and HAVE FUN!

8 FITNESSGRAM ASSESSMENT
FITNESSGRAM is a health related physical fitness assessment. Each of the test items was selected to assess important aspects of a student's health related fitness, not skill or agility. Students are compared not to each other, but to health fitness standards, carefully established for each age and gender, that indicate good health. The School District of Grafton uses the FITNESSGRAM assessment to measure our student’s fitness in the following areas: Aerobic Capacity Muscular Strength Muscular Endurance Flexibility

10 Mileage Club During the Fall and Spring of the year, students have the opportunity to participate in Mileage Club during their lunch recess period. Students are provided a mileage card to keep track of their laps as they run/walk around the track. Prizes are awarded when a card is completed. Through Mileage Club, students are able to participate in an active lifestyle outside of the classroom environment…and have fun in the process!!!

11 Our Ultimate Goal: Our Students Meeting the Content Standards for Physical Education
CS #1 - Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. CS #2 - Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. CS #3 - Participates regularly in physical activity. CS #4 - Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. CS #5 - Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. CS #6 - Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
