3. What is FCCLA?
FCCLA is an acronym for Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America.
It is a National career and technical student organization for young men and women in family and consumer sciences education in public and private school through grade 12.
Since its founding in 1945, FCCLA has involved more than nine million youth. The original name for the organization was Future Homemakers of America or FHA.
The central focus of FCCLA is family.

4. FCCLA Past-Future
June 1945 Future Homemakers of America was founded at a convention in Chicago, Illinois.
July 1999 Voting delegates voted in favor of the proposed name change to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
February 2010 Celebrating 65 years of leadership.

6. FCCLA Purpose
Purposes to provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life
to strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society
to encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community
to encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony
to promote greater understanding between youth and adults
to provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.

7. Who can be a member?
Anyone you is currently enrolled or has already had a family and consumer science class.
FCCLA has a national membership of over 225,000 young men and women in nearly 7,000 chapters.
There are 50 state associations including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
Membership is gained by paying an annual dues amount.

8. What do national dues support?
Payment of national dues makes the organization possible.
National dues support Teen Times, chapter mailings, national programs, chapter resources, training, promotion, processing fees, membership cards, national officer’s efforts, membership promotion, National Board of Director’s activities, expenses related to raising money, and operating expenses of the national headquarters and staff.

9. Dues Dues are currently $18 for membership.
Members receive a membership card, a subscription to Teen Times, and the opportunity to participate in all national and state sponsored competitions and meetings.
For being enrolled in this class you are considered an associate.
Once dues are received you are considered an affiliate.

Red suggests strength, courage, and determination— personal qualities leading to happiness through a positive self-image.
White symbolizes sincerity of purpose and integrity of action, qualities that will help individuals build a better tomorrow.
